INDEX TO EARLY WILLS & PROBATE RECORDS OF ADAMS CO., MS
By Carolyn Cole
Adams County was among the first areas settled in the present State of Mississippi. In this book the author has compiled the index for some fo the earliest records, making it extremely beneficial to researchers with interests in this area. She had included Will, Probate & Early Spanish records indices.
Adams County was first a Spanish Territory before being taken over by the British. Therefore, the earliest records, which begin in 1767 and go through 1805, are Spanish, but have been translated into English. These include such records as: wills, land sales, slave sales, estate inventories, law suits, etc.
The will books begin in 1798. Ms. Cole has listed the indices for the first three will books, which cover the years 1798 to 1871. An index for the probate records from the time period are included here as well. Each index is in alphabetical order, therefore no index for this book was included.
